One of the most important changes you can start making today is to pledge to stop supporting zoos and aquariums. This includes mobile zoos and temporary animal shows.Β

Keeping animals captive for their entire lives just so that we can go and look at them as a fun day out is beyond cruel. These animals are bred in captivity and never know of the outside world, or in the case of aquariums forcibly taken from the wild, often stripped from their families and communities. They are then kept captive in tiny and unsuitable spaces for life in the name of human entertainment. Many lives are lost in the process of transportation and surplus animals are often killed. Animals in captivity also suffer daily as they experience loneliness, stress and captivity-caused health issues while stuck in their cages and tanks.Β

So, if you want to make a difference in animals’ lives this World Animal Day, never visit a zoo, mobile zoo or aquarium again.

And, if you are wondering whether zoos are important for conservation and educational purposes, you can learn why these are both myths in our FAQ section and blog.

Keen to get involved in current animal rights events and activities to make a difference? At Freedom for Animals, we run multiple campaigns every year to give all captive animals their best chance at freedom. You can start by visiting our Latest Campaigns, where you will see our most recent petitions, appeals and call-to-actions. A simple signature or email to your local authority, and spreading the word about these causes, makes all the difference to animals’ lives.Β

If you want to be more actively involved, consider volunteering! Look for volunteer openings in your local shelters and charities, or email us at [emailΒ protected] to learn how you can get involved with Freedom for Animals’ work and events.

Want to celebrate your upcoming birthday, graduation or special day in a way that supports and celebrates animals? You can easily set up and personalise your own fundraising page with Freedom for Animals. Invite your friends, family and colleagues to get involved and support you in reaching your goal, all while supporting our work to eliminate animal exploitation, harm and captivity. You can publish your fundraising page on Facebook or any other social media platform you want!

This is a great way to not only support animal rights but to let your loved ones know how important animal rights are to you and educate others on the reality of animal exploitation in zoos, aquariums, circuses and beyond.

Finally, what better way to commemorate World Animal Day than to adopt a cute animal and fuel valuable efforts for animal freedom? Freedom for Animals adoption packs come complete with an adoption certificate, exclusive newsletter, stickers, campaign materials, and an eco-toy plushie of your choice! This makes them the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one.

The adoptions make Freedom for Animals’ work possible so that we can end animal suffering for all animals that are held behind lock and key.
