Coffee lovers, have you heard? Starting March 5, 2025, you can order your favorite cup of Dunkin’ coffee with oat milk or almond milk at no extra charge! And yes, that includes your go-to location, as well as the other 9,500+ Dunkin’ stores nationwide. This win comes after outreach from the Mercy For Animals corporate engagement team urging Dunkin’ to make the change and educating them on the importance of dropping the additional fee for plant milk.
Dunkin’s new plant-milk policy aligns with those of several other major U.S. coffee chains, including Starbucks, Scooter’s Coffee, Dutch Bros, Tim Hortons, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, and Gregorys Coffee.
This move is not only a win for your wallet:
- The policy is more equitable. Studies show that nearly 90% of people from some parts of East Asia, 80% of Indigenous Americans, 65% of Africans and African Americans, and 50% of Latin Americans experience some form of lactose intolerance.
- The policy is better for the planet. Cows’ milk production generates three times more greenhouse gas emissions, uses 11 times more land, and requires 13 times more water than oat milk. Making plant-based milk more accessible means that more people can make the sustainable switch.
- The policy helps protect animals. The dairy industry is fraught with cruelty, typically keeping cows in miserable conditions and separating them from their calves shortly after birth. Offering plant-based milk at the same price can encourage consumers to make kinder choices and move us closer to a world where animals are no longer trapped in a cruel system.
With five of the largest coffee chains in the United States now offering plant-based milk at no extra cost, the question is, Who’s next?
