With legislative proposals to end cage farming expected this year, the End the Cage Age coalition, led by our member, Compassion in World Farming, kickstarted a 190-day countdown to the last quarter of 2026, when the European Commission has promised it will start sharing proposals to phase out cages.
This event, which brought together farmers, citizens, and policy-makers from across Europe, was an excellent chance to demonstrate clearly that a cage-free future would have significant benefits along with better animal welfare, including to farmers and the environment.
Following the recent development in the End the Cage Age court case, in which members of the End the Cage Age coalition gathered at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg to present the case for cage-free farming, this latest demonstration will hopefully prove influential in moving the needle closer to the much anticipated EU-wide cage ban.
