We have added 14 events displaying reindeer to our Interactive Map this week – click here to take action!
If you’ve already joined in with our efforts to prevent these events from taking place, by reporting or contacting the organisers, then thank you! Your support makes a real difference to the lives of reindeer across the UK!
The 14 new events are cruelly choosing to display reindeer, and we need your help to let them know the detrimental effect this exploitation has on such gentle, sensitive beings.
Why Should These Events Stop Using Reindeer?
Reindeer are not props! They are living, feeling individuals. Just last week, we reported on a reindeer who escaped from one of these very events in Formby – running from the enclosure he was trapped in, in a desperate bid for freedom, and to flee from the loud crowds and stressful environment. Armed police, coastguards, and even the Royal Marines were called in to capture him as a result (see below image). This incident shows us how reindeer suffer when they get forced into unnatural, noisy, and crowded events. Their stress can lead to them panicking and getting injured – it has to stop!
And there is hope! Lapland UK recently let us know they will no longer be displaying live reindeer! Instead, they are opting for beautifully crafted models and animatronics. This is a victory that proves that when enough of us speak out, change is possible.
