Today APGAW has launched the Innate Health Assessment website and tool which was built by PetProov.
There are a significant number of animals bred that can never experience a life worth living because they have been born with physical problems and pain from the very start. This is known as extreme conformation. APGAW believes we must tackle this issue and consequently we have developed the IHA tool.
APGAW team, Marisa Heath and Vanessa Barnes, have worked with Professor Dan O’Neill to launch the IHA and to build the support of a significant number of key experts and organisations who are endorsing the tool.
The IHA aims to solve the top conformation issues impacting dog welfare. 10 criteria which are easy to see and anyone can take the test. if the dog fails it should not be bred from and those looking to buy a puppy should avoid these 10 traits as well if they want a healthier dog and to try to avoid veterinary bills in the future.
The IHA marks the start of a breeding revolution.
APGAW officer Professor Lord Trees, a highly regarded veterinary surgeon, stated:
“The fashion for extreme conformation is arguably the most chronic and prevalent welfare issue in dogs in the UK, yet it persists in plain sight in a nation of animal lovers.”
