The footage, taken in a UK-based laboratory, shows tests performed for EU based clients and exposes a harsh reality: several animals, including rats, rabbits, dogs, pigs and non-human primates are restrained and subject to tests that include injections, inhalation, force-feeding, and skin exposure to potentially toxic substances.
The disturbing footage unmasks the immense level of suffering that the animals have to endure during these tests, and the fear inflicted as they anticipate these ordeals. The procedures essentially test at what concentration a substance causes harm, illness or death, and animals can be given a dose that is 100 times that to which humans might be exposed to.
