It is one of the fashionable breeds in countries such as France and Belgium, where it has its origin. Although they have not changed much since their origin, the current papillon breed dogs present some differences that became evident from the nineteenth century. Due to the selection of breeders of specimens with more upright ears for breeding. The official recognition of the breed was made in 1935, although previously it was already adored as a companion dog for its qualities.

Characteristics of papillon

The papillon dog stands out for a fine and elegant aesthetic, with a soft head, of which its large and hairy ears stand out; whose shape resembles the wings of a butterfly. It also has a large and hairy tail, another of the characteristics that stands out most in these animals.

It has short and thin legs; a small, elongated body, with good aesthetic appearance; all these features help you to always maintain an elegant posture.

The papillon is a small breed, its weight will never exceed 5 kilograms. While the height, will be a maximum of 28 centimeters. Its small size makes it highly valued as a companion dog. It adapts perfectly to small apartments.

There is a variety of this breed known as phalène, which means moth. This is because, instead of showing the ears upright, it shows them drooping to the sides.
