Physical characteristics of bichon frisé

The muzzle of the curly-haired Bichon is not too thick and a round black nose. The eyes are round and dark in color, with a bright expression and reflect his cheerful character. The ears of the Bichon frisé are covered with long, curly hairs; he usually carries them hanging, but if the dog is attentive he turns them forward. The neck is moderately long and the chest is well developed, with the hips retracted towards the abdomen.

The tail is usually carried raised. It is not in contact with the back, although sometimes it is wardss towards it. The front legs are straight and perpendicular, the hind limbs have a wide pelvis, wide and muscular thigh.

The body of the Bichon frisé is covered by a long, soft coat with a silky texture and with an outer layer that is more curly than the inner one. Health of the bichon frisé.

This dog breed has an average life expectancy of between 12 and 15 years. The curly-haired bichon should be fed at least twice a day to keep it in excellent condition, trying to prevent it from being overweight.

In general, they enjoy excellent health. Like many breeds of small dogs, the Bichon frisé can also be subject to urolithiasis, that is, stones of the urinary tract. This problem is easily solved with therapeutic diets and the consumption of plenty of water.

Other pathologies that can affect it are puerperal eclampsia and von Willebrand disease. The first is typical of the postpartum phases and is caused by a decrease in calcium in the mother’s blood and occurs during lactation. The second is the most common hereditary coagulopathy in dogs.
